Yes, you absolutely can freeze Welsh cakes! At MamGu Welshcakes all of our Welsh cakes can be frozen, including both sweet and savoury flavours. It’s a great way to stock up on your favourites and enjoy them whenever the craving hits.
We recommend freezing Welsh cakes for up to 6 months. For the best results, keep them in the sealed packaging they arrive in, or transfer them to an airtight container before freezing. Avoid putting Welsh cakes into the freezer loose, as this can cause freezer burn and affect their texture and flavour.
How long do welsh cakes last after defrosting?
Sweet welsh cakes
Once defrosted, sweet Welsh cakes will stay fresh for up to 28 days if kept sealed in their airtight packaging. Please note this may be shorter if they weren’t frozen on the day you purchased them.
If the packaging has been opened, we recommend storing them in an airtight container, where they should keep for around 10 days.
Savoury welsh cakes
Once defrosted, savoury Welsh cakes will stay fresh for up to 10 days if kept sealed in their airtight packaging. Again, this may be reduced if they were not frozen on the day of purchase.
If opened and stored in an airtight container, savoury Welsh cakes should be enjoyed within around 4 days. Please remember that all savoury Welsh cakes must be kept in the fridge.
Can you freeze Ready To Bake Welsh Cake Dough?
Yes! Our Ready To Bake Welsh Cake Dough can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Once defrosted, it should be kept in the fridge and used within 7 days.
Defrosting your welsh cakes
For the best taste and texture, we recommend allowing both sweet and savoury Welsh cakes to defrost naturally for 6–12 hours before eating.
Welsh cakes always taste best warm. You can warm welsh cakes up a number of ways; a quick blast in the toaster, in a frying pan on low heat, or on a bakestone if you've got one!
