Our Story
It all began in 2016 with two friends whose love for coastal culture and cake transcended into a fully fledged business after being inspired by a pancake house whilst on a trip to Holland. Just like the Dutch, The Welsh celebrate their patriotism with a burst of modern vibrancy and the two friends wondered how they could transform this passion into a welsh cake...
From their first ever Christmas market armed with just a gazebo and one small griddle, to then opening what became a much loved cosy cafe in Solva Harbour and a small bakery in Croesgoch, it is safe to say MamGu Welshcakes were in high demand. They have now gone from strength to strength, in 2023 they opened up a beach side cafe on the harbour wall of Saundersfoot along with moving to a much larger and modern bakery built to their specific needs in the UK's smallest city, St Davids. Finally and most recently in 2024 they relocated their Solva cafe also to St Davids. MamGu Welshcakes can now proudly be found in a beautiful and vibrant 14th century grade 2 listed building adjoined to the jaw dropping St David's Cathedral.
Sustainability is at the heart of MamGu’s. For us it's not just about cake, it's about local people and their environment. We are proud to be employing over fourty bakers, food caterers and coffee makers who live locally to our welsh-cakeries.
When you buy from MamGu Welshcakes you are not just supporting us, you are supporting our community.
