MamGu’s Japan Adventure – Day 5 & 6
Yes, you saw that right – the cover photo of this blog really is Sam in a MamGu apron on the world-famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing! It had to be done! 🤣
Back at Mitsukoshi Nihombashi’s British Fair in Tokyo, things have been in full swing. We’re currently baking close to 2,000 traditional and alternative Welsh Cakes every single day – a true taste of Wales abroad. It’s only possible thanks to the support of an incredible team of local ladies, all managed so wonderfully by our host, Fumie.
The pace has been intense, with shifts running from 7am until 5pm, queues that never seem to end, and countless Welsh Cakes flipped along the way. But every smile, every warm “Arigatō” and every curious visitor tasting Welsh Cakes in Japan for the very first time has made all the effort worthwhile. The welcome we’ve received here has been nothing short of incredible!
Of course, it hasn’t all been work – we’ve managed to sneak in some fun too! From exploring Tokyo’s buzzing nightlife to marvelling at the price of grapes (check out the picture below, yes that really is 10,800 Yen / £54.26 for a bunch! ), we’re soaking up as much of this amazing city as we can. The combination of Welsh food in Japan and Japanese hospitality has been unforgettable.
As the Tokyo British Fair draws to a close on Monday, we’re determined to make the most of our final days. If you’ve got any suggestions for must-see sights or experiences in Tokyo, let us know – we’re ready to keep exploring when the griddles are off!

The Dream Team!
